SPEAKER_00: Hi, this is Shelly Treacher from Underground Confidence. Just dropping in to give you a two-minute bite about selfishness. Selfish is something that I hear a lot of people say that they think they are if they focus on themselves. You know if you follow any of my podcasts that I ask you to focus on yourself quite a lot. If you have an idea that focusing on yourself means that you're selfish, then I'll ask you to consider where you got that idea from. Is it something that you have running constantly in your mind that you've never really challenged or thought about? Is there a voice in your head that says if you value how you feel or you focus on yourself, that it's navel gazing? Or takes too much attention from the other person? If you have anything similar in your mind, who does that voice sound like? In your history, in your current life, or even in your culture? I don't think that's actually true. I think the opposite is true. I think that if you know what you want and you can be very clear to everyone around you about that, then everybody knows where they stand with you. And they can know how they can help you or you can help them, or how they can't help you, and how you can't help them. This is being clear about your real boundaries. From this position, you're more likely to have more capacity to help, actually. Because you'll be some way adept at looking after yourself, so they won't need to do that for you or to worry about that. Once again, I'm asking you to be kind about the way that you talk to yourself. Calling yourself selfish is very critical and judgmental. So I'd ask you to challenge that. Thank you for listening today. I'll see you on Wednesday. This is Shelley Treacher from Underground Confidence.
